Total in partnership with SparkNews has open application for the 2018 Total-SparkNews Startupper of the Year Challenge. The Challenge is aimed at supporting ideas and projects that help address a widespread problem affecting communities in several countries across the world.
If you are an entrepreneur with a project that you believe greatly will be a success, you are encouraged to apply now. Deadline for submitting entries is November 13, 2018.
After the success of the first Challenge in 34 countries, it has now been extended to a total of 55 countries across the world. In this second edition, the Top Female Entrepreneur category has now been introduced and this special award is meant to encourage more women entrepreneurs to participate which is in line with Total’s women initiative.
The Challenge is looking out for projects that will be of extreme benefit to a majority of people in your society, be it providing educational opportunities, reducing child mortality, improving public health or extending electricity to rural communities and more. The 2018 Total-SparkNews Startupper Challenge is open to all persons who are doing any project to solve a problem in their community.
The benefits of the 2018 Total-SparkNews Startupper Challenge include; 3 winners from each country receive financial support, extensive publicity and coaching. From these 3 winners per country, grand winners by regions will be selected for additional support. The first place winner from each country will then compete for one of the six “Grand Regional Winners” awards. The Top Female Entrepreneur award winner receives networking and coaching or mentoring opportunities. The winner of the Startup For Better Energy award receives partnership with the Total affiliate in your country.
To be eligible for entry, you must not be more than 35 years old and should be a citizen in the participating country.
Specifically for Africa, these are the participating countries in the 2018 Total-SparkNews Startupper Challenge: Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mayotte, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Réunion, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Your project should be an idea or a startup created less than two years ago, offering practical solution to identified challenges and be beneficial to the broader public.
