3 Must-Read Wealth Creation Books For Professionals and Entrepreneurs

Mission-driven professionals or business owners often have a good idea what they want their outcomes for each year to look or feel like. They review their goals regularly taking into account their vision and values. They look at the bigger picture and plan accordingly rarely deviating from the mission they set out to accomplish.

Whether you’re a professional or business owner, regardless of how big or small your plans for the year may be, you are sure to need one thing; resources. Abundant resources to accomplish your goals, invest in something worthwhile and make a difference in the world. You need resources to meet needs and change lives and to be a voice of influence with your brand or your message. In an ideal world, the value of your resources would mean you lend more than you borrow and lead more than you follow.

Although this is not the only resource that can help us accomplish our goals, it’s one that is necessary to accelerate success; money. Contrary to common misquotes, money is not the root of all evil but the love of it, is. When the desire to acquire money or the money we acquire costs us our values, health or relationships, then it becomes ‘evil’. However, money on its own is simply a tool that needs a specialist to use it wisely. Used unwisely, it is likely to cause more grief than joy.

Based on our upbringing or our own mindset, many of us tend to view money either as our master or our worker; either we work for it or it works for us. We could spend our lives working for money and dedicate our entire existence to trying to acquire it in order to spend it only on meeting our immediate needs. Alternatively, we could learn to make the money we acquire work for us through investment in order to create additional streams of income that meet our needs and help us accomplish our goals.

Personally, my ultimate job description is ” Philanthropist” but I learnt very early in life that I could never be one if I had nothing to use to make a difference in the lives of others. Charity does begin at home and I had to make a difference in my own life before I could make a difference in the life of others.

My journey with money has been interesting, arduous, eye-opening and has taught me much about life, love, God and people. On that journey, I have read many books and three of them have stood out in helping me shift my money mindset to one of abundance. They are by no means the only three books out there on the subject but I hope they make a difference to you, should you decided to read through them. Their simplicity and straight-forwardness make them ideal partners on money mindset mastery.

1. OPEN YOUR MIND TO RECEIVE By Catherine Ponder

This book was gifted to me by a wonderful lady and colleague, Ruth Rankin. It was the perfect companion in helping me navigate a dark period in my life when debt caused by betrayal was overwhelming. This book helped me find clarity and peace and a way to take charge of my internal environment to influence my external outcomes. Catherine Ponder is considered one of America’s foremost inspirational authors and her ability to shed light on the laws of abundance made reading this and using the declarations and affirmations therein a pleasure. It’s certainly not a book you will want to give away because you will want to keep coming back to it to refresh your money mindset.

3. THE GO-GIVER By Bob Burg and John David Mann

This book was recommended to two amazing business women, Liz Almond of Insightful Minds and Rebecca Robertson of Financial Planning for Women. I’m yet to read the book in full but the very premise of the book resonates with the philanthropist in me. In a world were being a ‘go-getter’ is highly admirable, the authors of this book highlight the ‘Go-Giver’ concept based on the universal principle of, “Give and you shall receive.” The idea behind the book is that when business owners change focus from getting to giving i.e., putting others’ interests first and continually adding value to their lives, they ultimately receive unexpected returns. Please feel free to share your thoughts if you’ve completed this book.

Which books do you find inspiring and how have they transformed your life?
