Winners Of 3rd Edition of AppsAfrica Innovation Awards Announced

On Monday, 6th November, 2017, at a dinner in Cape Town, the ten (10) winners of this year’s edition of the AppsAfrica Innovation Awards were announced.

The award scheme supported by BoomPlay Music, Basebone, BBM, Content Connect Africa, Mobile Monday South Africa (MOMO) and the Mobile Ecosystem Forum(MEF) seeks to celebrate the best in mobile and tech from across the African continent.

This year’s AppsAfrica awards attracted over 300 entries from 31 countries judged by an independent panel of leading industry experts. At the end of the day, out of about 50 nominated finalists across 10 categories, only 10 walked away with the big prize. The winners are listed below;

1. Best Social and Messaging Award

This award went to Kenyan emergency response startup Flare.

2. Disruptive Innovation Award

This next award also went to UK based startup operating in Africa, What3Words.

3. Best African App

The winner of this award was music streaming and download service Boomplay Music.

4. Enterprise Solution Award

This award was picked up by the only startup to win more than one award, What3Words.

5. News and Entertainment Award

This one went to Nigerian news startup Bounce News.

6. Educational Award

This award went to Kenyan startup Snapplify.

7. Fintech Award

This was awarded to Flutterwave.

8. Social Impact Award

This award went to Vodacom e-School.

9. mCommerce

The winner of this award was mobile-based auction service Mazady.

10. Changing Africa

This award was won by mobile financial services startup company Jumo.

The winners of the various awards also get the opportunity to showcase their products at the Africa Tech Summit Kigali next year. Along with the opportunity to connect with the world leaders in tech and investors.
